BREAKING: Nationals Extend GM/POBO Mike Rizzo
With the Washington Nationals in the midst of a rebuild headed up by young star CJ Abrams, the team announced Wednesday that they have signed general manager and president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo to a multi-year contract extension, per MLB.com's Jessica Camerato. Rizzo was the Lerner family's first hire, dating back to 2006. He became General Manager in 2009, then moved to executive VP of baseball ops the following season before ascending to his current role in 2013. He has since guided the team through numerous trades, key signings and managerial changes. These moves have gotten the Nationals to the pinnacle with a World Series title in 2019 and have pivoted them towards long-term success.
