Aaron Rodgers Helped Off Field In Jets Debut

This summer, the New York Jets went all in as they acquired Super Bowl champion quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers. The Jets gave up 4 draft picks for Rodgers in the hopes that he would be the savior - the one that would lead Gang Green to the promised land of the Super Bowl. He had even restructured his contract to give the Jets more flexibility in terms of the salary cap.

His much anticipated Jets debut would come on the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on America - a nationally televisied Monday Night Football game against the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills. This is where things would go horribly wrong.

It was a routine 1st down play. Jets were lined up in the gun package on offense with the Bills lined up in the dime defense. Rodgers is the kind of quarterback who can extend plays and make his own time in the pocket. However...that didn't happen.

The protection from the offensive line broke down, which allowed Bills linebacker Leonard Floyd to easily pierce through and get to Rodgers for an early sack. Rodgers was able to get up under his own power, but only for a short time as he imediately sat back down on the field, favoring his left side. Zach Wilson later came in as Aaron Rodgers was carted off the field and into the locker room.

Best case scenario is an ankle sprain - out maybe 4-6 weeks. Worst case scenario: either a reaggravation of that calf issue that hampered him in training camp or an Achillies. If it's an Achillies, then his first season as a Jet ends before it starts and Gang Green will have to rely on an inconsistent Zach Wilson once again, making for another long season for the Jets faithful.

UPDATE - 9/12/23: X-rays taken today have confirmed that Aaron Rodgers did indeed suffer a torn Achilles. He is out for the season.
