RAMS' SEASON CLOSES IN ROUGH WAY VS. ST. MARY

Ever heard the Beatles’ hit song ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’? Well on Thursday night, the Rams had a song titled ‘Can’t Buy Me Buckets’ as they looked to close out their season on a high note against the Lions of Mount St. Mary’s Academy out of Watchung.  The Rams started off okay, only down 11-4 after 1. After that, the buckets became rarer than vowels on the popular TV game show ‘Wheel of Fortune’ – the Rams just couldn’t buy a bucket. Their shooters went cold, they couldn’t take care of the ball as they committed costly turnovers and they were falling victim to a favorite tactic of the New Jersey Devils: the trap. The Rams found themselves down 22-10 at the break and the nosedive just continued from there as they found themselves down by 24 at one point. Sure, they played tough throughout, but they just couldn’t make the adjustments that they needed to and the buckets came at more of a premium for the Rams as they fell in their final game by a 53-30 final to drop to 11-12 on t...

Scoreless First Quarter Stalls Rams On Senior Night

It was Senior Night on Monday at Hightstown High as the Rams looked to close out the regular season against the Lions of Jackson Liberty, who were looking to snap a 3-game losing skid.  Rams started 4 seniors on their night, all of whom brought someone special and were honored before the game. However, there wasn’t much to celebrate afterwards as the Rams quickly fell behind 14-0 after 1.  While they would get on the board in the 2 nd quarter, they still found themselves behind by double digits at 27-11. They would get to within 12 after 3, but could not get any closer.  While the Rams were able to drown out the distractions of Senior Night after the 1 st quarter, it just wasn’t enough as Jackson Liberty scored early and often.  The scoreless opening quarter did the Rams in as they fell 50-36 to close the regular season at 12-10, while Jackson Liberty finishes at 12-11 with the State Tournament on the horizon and their run in the MCT set to contin...

HARVICK THE BOUNTY HUNTER

Former Cup Series champion teams with Gander Outdoors CEO to put bounty on Kyle Busch After Kyle Busch won yet another Truck Series race Friday night in Vegas, Kevin Harvick put his promotional skills to the test as he put up a $50,000 bounty for any full-time Cup Series driver who can drive a truck and defeat Kyle Busch in any of his remaining 4 Truck Series events (March 14 at Atlanta, March 20 th at Homestead, March 27 th at Texas and May 30 th at Kansas).  Marcus Lemonis, CEO of Truck Series title sponsor Gander RV & Outdoors, was quick to throw his hat into the ring and put up another $50,000, making for a $100,000 bounty for any full time Cup Series driver to step into a truck and take down Kyle Busch. There’s but one catch, though…you can’t wreck him. So, sorry, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., you must race him clean. Obviously, Kyle Busch, the target of the bounty…was not amused. “Put money on a bounty on somebody and bad things tend to happen,” Busch said a...

RAMS' LATE RUN FALLS SHORT AGAINST EWING

Friday night, the Rams hosted CVC rivals Ewing in a crucial pre-MCT matchup at Hightstown High School. The Rams took an early 14-13 lead after the 1 st quarter and hang tough throughout, despite falling behind 29-25 at the half and finding themselves down by as many as 10 at one point following a 7-0 Ewing run to put the Blue Devils up 47-37. But an 11-3 run by the Rams kept them in contention right up to the final horn when one of Hightstown’s own attempted to channel her inner Stephen Curry and make a last second 3 to win the game only to have it clang off the rim as the Rams fell to Ewing by a 50-48 final.  As Maxwell Smart would say on ‘Get Smart’ – “Missed It By…THAT MUCH!”  Despite having 2 players foul out late, Hightstown showed the grit and determination that champions like the 90s Chicago Bulls and the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers are made of as they looked for a bounce back game after the loss Tuesday against Trenton Central.  During the 2nd quarter, ...

Turnovers Prove Costly As Rams Fall To Trenton Central

Tuesday night, the Rams returned home on the heels of winning back to back games to face the Tornadoes of Trenton Central, who were on a 3-game win streak of their own. It was a slow start for both teams as Trenton Central took an 11-6 lead after the opening frame.  Hightstown seemed to hold their own during the opening quarter as they limited turnovers and took care of the ball. But the 2 nd quarter was where the wheels fell off as Trenton Central employed the Mike D’Antoni 7-second play style, using it to pull out to a 17-point halftime advantage, leading by as many as 20 at one point.  While the Rams stayed tough throughout the game, despite not being able to make their shots and a glaring turnover issue, they just could not recover, and they end up falling to the Tornadoes by a 56-40 final. Turnovers became an issue in the 2 nd quarter and shots not falling, not getting high-percentage looks, became apparent at the halftime break.  Those are issues th...
