Rough 1st Half Sinks Rams Against Shore

Thursday night, the Rams went up against the Blue Devils of Shore Regional High and just couldn’t seem to get it going. After a barrage of costly turnovers and fouls, combined with the Blue Devils’ up-tempo style of play, the Rams found themselves down by 11 after 1 and down by 19 at the break.  From then on, it was just a downward spiral that the Rams just couldn’t recover from, no matter how hard they tried. Hightstown was looking to bounce back after a tough loss at the hands of Hopewell Valley Central in their last outing.  This one didn’t go as they had hoped as they went up against a Shore Regional team that was desperate to stay above .500 after suffering a double-digit loss of their own. Despite finding better shots and taking better care of the ball in the 2 nd half, the Rams still couldn’t stay out of the way of fouls and that cost them as they fell 47-25 at the hands of the Blue Devils, dropping to 7-5 on the season. The Rams will look to rebound Fr...

Rams Throw Pirates Overboard

The Rams faced their Colonial Valley Conference rivals in the West Windsor-Plainsboro South Pirates on Saturday at Hightstown High School as they looked to rebound from a 1-2 road swing that saw them get outscored by over 30 points per game. The glaring problem for the Rams in that 3-game stretch – turnovers. They were not taking care of the ball and making the most of every possession. They found themselves back on their home floor looking to rectify that issue against a conference rival. For WW-P South, it was their first game against their conference rival Hightstown. They came in at 5-5 and looked to make a statement. South got out to a 6-point lead after 1, but the Rams got behind their stars, started boxing out and took better care of the ball than they did during their road trip. The Rams turned it on in the 2 nd half, taking a 4-point halftime deficit into a 6-point lead. South got to within 2 at one point, but a late surge by the Rams put the game on ice as Hightstown start...

Astros-Gate

Cheating scandal of 2017 World Series champion claims another victim Teams are still being investigated in the electronic sign stealing scandal of the 2017 Houston Astros, but already we’ve seen the Astros lose their GM Jeff Luhnow and their field manager AJ Hinch. Wednesday, the Red Sox gave Alex Cora, their manager, the boot. Now the 3 rd manager in as many days has been shown the door. This time, it affects the New York Mets as Carlos Beltran, a player at the time of the scandal, who was not disciplined as a result, has now been relieved of his duties as manager of the Mets just 2 months after he was hired and only 3 weeks before the start of spring training in Florida and Arizona. Unlike with Hinch and Cora, there was a pathway for Beltran to remain as manager of the Mets; but as a first-time manager, especially with his wealth of baseball IQ, it would be tough for him to answer all those questions about the scandal that would bombard him all year. If the Mets have success...

Hightstown High Girls' Basketball Breakdown - 1/4/2020

First, I'd like to announce that I'm transitioning to covering high school sports at the suggestion of my TV Production professor, Mr. Steven Voorhees. Thank you for the suggestion, Professor Voorhees. I promise I won't let you down! Before I get started with my breakdown of the Hightstown/South Brunswick game, I’d first like to thank Athletic Director Jim Peto, without whom none of this would be possible; and assistant coach Jenna Marcus. Jenna, you are and always have been one of the coolest girls I’ve ever known. Thank you both so much for allowing me this opportunity. On Saturday, Hightstown’s Lady Rams took on the Lady Vikings of South Brunswick High in a non-conference match-up to continue the 2020 calendar. The big story lines for both teams coming in were blowouts at different ends of the spectrum. South Brunswick was destroyed by Monroe in their last game – losing 59-19, while Hightstown took down Nottingham 56-20. Another key issue for both teams…turno...
