The Legacy Of The Trenton Titans - 25 Years Later

Image
It's now been 25 years since the Titans first graced the ice of what is now Cure Insurance Arena in Trenton. The Titans were successful out of the gate, regularly selling out their home barn, posting the best record in the league in just their 2nd season and making the East Coast Hockey League's Kelly Cup Finals twice - winning it all in 2004-05 during the infamous NHL lockout that year. But after 14 seasons and three ownership changes, the Titans were no more, leaving Cure Insurance Arena empty in the fall and winter months. So what went wrong? Why was a successful minor league hockey team torn away from the fans after a little more than a decade? What is the legacy of the Titans 25 years later and...what will it take to bring them back? Origin To better understand the legacy of the Trenton Titans, let's first go back to 1996, when Trenton - New Jersey's capital - was awarded a franchise in the burgeoning East Coast Hockey League. Spingate - 10 Years Later

Image
For my first post in 3 years, let's take a look at one of the biggest controversies in NASCAR history. I'm talking about Spingate. To gain more insight on Spingate, let's first go back to September 7, 2013. It's the 2013 Federated Auto Parts 400 - thenn the 26th and final race in the NASCAR Cup Series regular season. Back then, 12 drivers qualified for the Chase for the Sprint Cup - 10 of which were in on points, the other 2 were wild cards: drivers 11th-20th in points based on how many wins a driver had in the 26 races leading up to the Chase. Heading into the regular season finale, Kasey Khane - then driving for Hendrick Motorsports - was the only driver locked into a wild card spot, having won 2 races on the season: Bristol in March and Pocono in August. New Jersey's own Martin Truex Jr. held the 2nd wild card with Ryan Newman right behind him. In order to ensure a Chase spot, Newman had to either win or finish 5 positions ahead of Truex and hope that Greg Biffl...

BREAKING: Mets Get Their White Whale - David Stearns

Image
After two years of speculation and misfires, it has finally happened with two plus weeks left in baseball's regular season. Per ESPN MLB Insider Jeff Passan, Steve Cohen and the New York Mets have finally gotten the man they've pursued as President of Baseball Operations: Brewers President of Baseball Operations, Long Island native and life-long Mets fan David Stearns. Stearns brought the Brewers from the proverbial abyss and turned them into perennial contenders in the span of three years and now have made the Brewers a force within the NL Central. He also helped turn the Houston Astros from laughing stock of the AL West into powerhouses. He now brings that proven track record to a team that desperately needs a spark in the New York Mets. After having gone through three General Managers in now three seasons under owner Steve Cohen, subpar seasons and a short stint in the 2022 Postseason where they were soundly bounced by the Padres in the NL Wild Card Series, Stearns will com...
